CMI Data Model

"cmi.core.essay_data"

As data capacity and storage is decreasing as a cost-driving constraint on LMSes, a read-write field for large text values ('text' data-type) might be effective for eLearning courses that need to capture subjective student responses.

Applications: eLearning for K-12 education (to standardize courseware delivery from a market of vendors).

Reporting can be LMS dependent.

Reset data model elements with default values not in the specified datatype

Data model elements such as the raw, min, max and scaled scores cannot be set back to the unknown state after being set. In the SCORM environment, there is no way to remove a score value once it has been set. Recommendation: The score data model elements’ data types are real(10,7). If an “” (empty string) was added to the accepted data type, it could serve as a means to reset the element to the unknown state. Impacts: ...more »

A new data model element to determine the "attempt" number of a data model instance

Currently, there is no way to determine the attempt number of a data model instance In the SCORM environment, a data model instance is preserved during a single attempt on the SCO. It is possible to start a new attempt when a SCO is launched. This creates a new, initialized data model instance. In this situation, it may be valuable for the content to know that is the second attempt on the SCO. There is no current ...more »

Objective threshold evaluations for success status and completion status

In the SCORM environment, the “core” data associated with a SCO provides the ability to make an evaluation for cmi.success_status and cmi.completion_status. For cmi.success_status, this is accomplished via the relationship between cmi.score.scaled and cmi.scaled_passing_score. For cmi.completion_status, this is accomplished via the relationship between cmi.progress_measure and cmi.completion_threshold. Objectives ...more »

Weight on a Measure for a Given Objective

Currently, there is no way to apply weight to a measure on a given objective A SCO can contain n objectives, each with an associated measure. There is currently no way to weight the measure on a given objective. Recommendation: The addition of a cmi.objectives.n.weight data model element would give the ability to weight the progress and scores of a given objective. This can be used by the SCO or reporting features ...more »
